First Visit – Consultation

WHO CAN CONSULT AN ORTHODONTIST ?

Many of our patients do consult us for an evaluation following a request from their dentist. However, a referral from your dentist is not required to make an appointment for a consultation. Many of our patients are referred to us by present patients, former patients, or their friends or family members. It is important to know that you are never too old or too young to get an orthodontic evaluation. In fact we take pride in the fact that over 50% of our referrals are from word of mouth. What better compliment that to receive a referral from a satisfied patient? Moreover, the age of our patients ranges from 4-71 years.

INITIAL CONSULTATION

The initial consultation appointment lasts for an approximate duration of 45 minutes. During this visit, we will complete a cursory examination to determine your needs and help you determine the treatment plan that suits you. This review includes a panoramic X-Ray, taking photographs of the face and teeth and intra and extra oral examination. Clinical stages, the choice of recommended appliances, fees and payment terms associated with the various treatment plans will be explained. When the time comes to start treatment, a more complete diagnostic examination will be necessary.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial assessment at the age of 7 years. A majority of children of this age do not begin treatment immediately, but we can be proactive and identify potential problems. Our younger patients who are not ready for orthodontic treatment will be placed on a Recall List. In this way Dr. Cassar can continue to monitor their growth and the development in order to minimize future problems. This service is generally offered free of charge as a courtesy to you. The intention is to also allow us to get to know your child and to inspire confidence.
