The most natural way of treatment is often the best way. We strongly believe that keeping all the permanent teeth is important to achieve a healthy and balanced smile and facial structure in the long term. That is why our approach to orthodontics is to minimize the extraction of teeth. When indicated, we work to modify a child’s growth pattern while they are still young to minimize the need for surgery or more invasive treatment later.
We are able to provide treatment to patients of all ages through the practice of DentoFacial Orthopedics, the process of creating proper facial balance and dental/TMJ function without the removal of permanent teeth. We offer a unique approach to orthodontics that simply isn’t encouraged elsewhere. Although we provide exceptional results, the process in how we achieve those results is not always well known. After a very thorough evaluation, we determine the relationship of the facial bones and teeth to the ideal for that patient.
Our techniques, developed over 30+ years, combine the finest American and European methods to address tooth alignment, resulting in proper facial balance that gives the patient the most beautiful, full and healthy smile possible and without the removal of permanent teeth. This allows the patient to experience an often newfound confidence associated with this result, a confidence that can last a lifetime.
WHAT DOES OUR OFFICE OFFER?
Developing a beautiful smile depends upon relationships and teamwork. Orthodontics is much more than just straightening teeth. It’s about working together to achieve the goals of a beautiful smile with proper alignment, fit and function of the teeth. Because most orthodontic treatment takes a year or two to complete, we are able to develop a personal relationship with each individual patient which is perhaps the most enjoyable and satisfying aspect of the orthodontic process. Having the opportunity to observe an individual grow and mature, to be a friend and to be a part of someone’s life is very rewarding for us.

Dr. Cassar has developed a short general list of treatment concepts he has incorporated into his day-to-day orthodontic practice that has enhanced his overall success of treatment.
- Always take the most conservative approach first
We are typically not treating or curing diseases or illnesses, we are enhancing the natural and normal mismatches of the teeth and jaws. If the easiest method is not giving us the proper results, then change it. - Do not fear recommending changes to treatment
Orthodontists may hesitate informing you of a treatment plan change for fear of appearing “wrong” originally. Orthodontics is “a journey through change”; not everyone responds exactly the same to treatment therefore changes in the “Path” is part of the process. - There are very few “rights” or “wrongs” in orthodontics
There are very often many approaches to treat the same orthodontic problems without one having to be right or wrong. Dr. Cassar is committed to educating you on your choices and explaining apparent differences in his treatment approaches including honestly comparing other recommendations that you may have received from other orthodontists. - It is always better to initially evaluate a child at a young age
Dr. Cassar’s preference initially with a young child is to delay treatment if possible for two reasons: First, growth is a big factor in orthodontic care. By seeing a child at two different points in time, it gives him an opportunity to evaluate the changes that are occurring; a movie picture verses a snap shot. Second, the child gains trust if given an opportunity to go to a doctor’s office and not have anything painful done to them for a change. - It is never too late to benefit from orthodontics
The term “it’s not worth it anymore” is applying later and later in life. Dentistry in general including orthodontics is undergoing a tremendous overhaul in its thinking about when is it too late to worry about the benefits of “fixing” one’s teeth. So is the general public! Our eldest patient now stands at 76 years young during her treatment.

For the past 35 years, Dr. Jean Cassar has devoted significant educational and clinical time to the understanding and treatment of oral physiological disorders. He uses the premise of physiological positioning, placing the teeth in the most harmonious and symmetrical relationship to the surrounding muscle and bone, when treating all of her patients – children and adults.
